I’m hard on the things I wear, but the things I wear are also hard on my skin. So we’ve gone through a few collars to find things that I can wear long-term that won’t irritate me.

2023-04-19 – First Collar

After some discussion and looking around, we decided that I would make my day collar. The beads are garnet gemstones, for his birthstone, adding an extra layer of symbolic connection. Wanted to show it off. I’m wearing it now but took the picture before he put it on me. ❤️

It took me several false starts before I settled on the materials but I’m really happy with how it came out 😄

The back is a thin chain within a clasp. The beads are on a thick string – upholstery thread. The charm is on wire to keep its shape.

And I’m really happy with how it looks.
It hangs really nicely.

Something I really like about this necklace/collar is now heavy it is. I feel its weight and when I do I think of Tim ❤️

Update

After a few different repairs to keep this going, the string that held the beads finally just fell apart. I leaned over in the bathroom (I think I was picking something up?) and down all the beads came and they went everywhere. It has not been remade. I had stopped wearing the charm after Sam said it looked like a boot instead of a heart and I just couldn’t unsee it. I was sad to see this one go. It was pretty and it meant something to me, but the upholstery thread just wasn’t strong enough to last long term wear and tear of the beads every day.
